We have prequalified our own facility — and our own VPP platform
On Baldersvej in Ringsted, Meganet operates a 1 MW / 4.6 MWh battery facility that is prequalified for FCR and aFRR and is managed by the same VPP platform we offer our customers.
Challenge, solution and result
Challenge
To be able to offer customers a proven VPP platform with real operational experience, we had to go through the entire process ourselves from grid connection to prequalification — not just as advisors, but as asset owners and aggregators.
Solution
We constructed a 1 MW / 4.6 MWh battery facility on Baldersvej in Ringsted — 2 × PowerCombo liquid-cooled energy storage containers with LFP battery chemistry and a nominal capacity of 2,315 kWh per container. Each unit is throttled to 500 kW to comply with Energinet’s LER requirements for a 1:4 power-to-energy ratio, and the PCS system consists of 8 modular 125 kW inverters per container — all included on Energinet’s positive list. Both the facility and our own VPP platform underwent the full prequalification process with Energinet.
Result
The facility is currently prequalified for both FCR and aFRR and is continuously managed by our own VPP platform. This provides us with operational experience and documentation that we use directly when sizing and prequalifying our customers' facilities.
The technique behind the pre-qualification
2 × 1 MW PowerCombo BESS
Liquid-cooled energy storage containers with LFP battery chemistry, 2,315 kWh nominal capacity per container — 4.63 MWh total. Throttled to 500 kW per container to comply with Energinet's LER 1:4 requirement between power and energy capacity.
PCS & positive list
8 modular inverters of 125 kW per container (1,000 kW in total), all included on Energinet’s list of approved equipment — a prerequisite for pre-qualification for FCR and aFRR.
VPP management & documentation
The system communicates via Modbus TCP and is controlled by our own VPP platform, which continuously documents the battery's performance and degradation — a requirement for continued participation in the markets.
Regarding pre-qualification
Is the Baldersvej facility a customer installation or your own?
It is our own facility. We own and operate it as part of our VPP fleet and use it to continuously test and document the platform before we roll out the solutions to customers.
What does a pre-qualification cost?
The cost depends on the complexity of the facility and the amount of technical documentation that needs to be prepared. We will provide a specific quote after an initial review of the facility.
What happens if a facility does not pass the test?
We adjust the setup or control and retest. At our own facility on Baldersvej, it went through the process with the same thoroughness we apply to customer facilities.
Must the facility be upgraded in order to pre-qualify?
It depends on the existing equipment. Some systems require the addition of monitoring or control equipment before they can document the necessary response time — and that the inverters are on Energinet's positive list.
Is it possible to be prequalified for other markets than FCR and aFRR?
Yes, depending on the technical characteristics of the facility, it is also possible to apply for prequalification for mFRR and FFR.
How long is a pre-qualification valid for?
The approval is in principle ongoing, but Energinet may require periodic retesting and documentation of degradation to confirm that the plant continues to meet the requirements — this also applies to our own facility on Baldersvej.
Can the process be repeated if the facility is expanded later?
Yes — for capacity expansions, the facility must in principle be retested for the new capacity.

We handle the entire process — from documentation to passed test and active operation, using the same platform as at our own facility on Baldersvej.
