Application

A downregulation system that works for you

The load bank is a physical downward regulation facility that Meganet designs, installs, and operates on your behalf. Via our VPP and EMS platform, the facility actively participates in the system service markets, without you having to manage bids or activation yourself.

Controlled down-regulation in the ancillary services markets

The load bank serves as a downregulation facility in markets such as FCR, FCR-D, and FCR-N via the PICASSO platform and generates revenue when the grid requires additional consumption.

Controlled by VPP and EMS

The plant is integrated into Meganet's VPP and EMS platform, which automatically bids, activates, and documents the load — you do not need to handle daily market participation yourselves.

Scalable capacity

Multiple load bank units can be connected in parallel for multi-MW loads, allowing the capacity to be matched to your facility's needs and market potential.

Here's how it works

From idea to active market participation

01

Sizing & Consulting

We determine the power requirements and market potential, and design the right load bank setup for your location and purpose.

02

Setup & grid connection

The load bank is installed and connected by our technicians, ready for controlled loading.

03

Prequalification for system services

We handle the prequalification process at Energinet so that the facility can bid on FCR, FCR-D, and FCR-N.

04

Continuous operation via VPP

From then on, our VPP and EMS platform takes over daily operations — bidding, activating, and documenting automatically.

Facility specifications

1000 kW resistive load bank

Our load bank unit is used as a down-regulation facility in system service markets — multiple units can be connected together for higher power. Step-controlled load provides precise control during activation.

Questions and Answers

Good to know about load banks

Does Meganet own and operate the load bank?

Yes. Meganet designs, installs, and operates the load bank as a down-regulation facility — you do not need to handle daily market participation or operations yourselves.

Which system service markets can the load bank participate in?

The load bank supports PICASSO, FCR, FCR-D and FCR-N, and can be included as downward regulation capacity in these markets.

How is the load bank controlled in practice?

The plant is controlled by Meganet's VPP and EMS platform, which handles bidding, activation, and documentation automatically — supplemented by step-controlled load management locally in the load bank.

Where in the country can you set up a load bank?

We operate nationwide and can install and manage facilities in both DK1 and DK2.

How much space does a setup require?

A standard 500 kW unit is the size of a small trailer and requires space for installation and access for connection — we will assess the space requirements specifically during establishment.

Can multiple load banks be connected together for higher power?

Yes, the units can be connected in parallel, allowing us to provide several MW of downward regulation capacity for larger plants.

Does it require pre-qualification with Energinet?

Yes, participation in the ancillary services markets requires pre-qualification with Energinet. We manage this process for you as part of the setup.
